Dear Governor Brown,
On behalf of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, I write to express my support for AB 1765.
AB 1765 would create the Habitat for Humanity Fund, allowing individuals to voluntarily contribute a specified amount to the fund on their tax return. This will designate needed grant funds for the sole purpose of building much-needed affordable housing in California.
Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit affordable housing organization, eliminating poverty housing throughout the world and making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
In California alone, there are 47 independent Habitat for Humanity affiliates who build, rehabilitate, and finance affordable homeownership opportunities in partnership with very low and low income families. Habitat also works within communities to repair and restore homes in distressed neighborhoods decimated by the foreclosure crisis. Specifically, through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity is helping thousands of Californians every year.
I strongly believe the additional funds generated by AB 1765 will assist Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to finance additional homeownership and home repair opportunities in California for working families living on fixed incomes and modest budgets.
For the reasons previously stated, I respectfully request your signature when AB 1765 comes across your desk.
