A Solution to Foreclosures in Your Community

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) has partnered with local cities and communities for twenty years.  We understand first-hand what it takes to transform communities and we want to make sure that the investment we have made does not fall victim to a challenged economy nor places families and neighborhoods at risk of destabilization.

In response, we have expanded our rehabilitation program to transform foreclosed properties into homeownership opportunities for low and very low-income families.

Habitat LA has joined HUD in the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) to purchase foreclosed properties and stabilize communities that have suffered from foreclosures and abandonment. Using federal NSP funds, Habitat LA will help families realize the American Dream of homeownership through responsible lending, creating a positive and immediate impact throughout the Greater Los Angeles region.

How it Works

  • Habitat LA acquires vacant Real Estate Owned (REO) properties in the selected communities.
  • We find qualified low-income buyers through our application process. Selected applicants must live and/or work in the community, earn between 30-80% of Area Median Income and qualify for a mortgage loan.
  • Habitat LA partners with the selected applicants and community volunteers to rehabilitate the home. Selected applicants contribute Sweat Equity hours towards the work of their home, other Habitat homes, and by attending educational trainings on the basics of homeownership.

How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in pursuing homeownership through Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. At this time, Habitat LA is no longer accepting applications for NSP homes in Long Beach, Lynwood and South Gate. The final deadline for all NSP applications needs to be received before closing on the properties.
