Homeownership: A Hand Up Not A Hand Out

Figueroa Family Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) builds and repairs homes in partnership with hardworking, low-income families and individuals.  We offer a hand up, not a hand out, by providing a once in a lifetime opportunity to build a long-term investment for your future.

Habitat homes and home repair services are affordable thanks to government subsidies, volunteer labor and community support.  Selected Habitat homebuyers pay a modest down payment, invest up to 500 hours of “Sweat Equity” in the construction of their home and are responsible for monthly mortgage payments and upkeep.

In addition, Habitat LA prepares Habitat Homeowners to be successful through a comprehensive homeownership education program. Find out more on our Homeownership Program for low income families in Los Angeles.

Existing homeowners in need of home repairs contribute to the completion of their repairs by working alongside staff and volunteers. Repairs are either provided free of cost or made repayable through a deferred, zero-percent interest note recorded on the property. For more on how our Home Repair Program can help any economically distressed family with critical house repairs you can contact our local L.A. office.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles provides equal housing opportunities for all, and ensures fair and equal access to its programs and services  regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, familial status, disability, marital status, ancestry, sexual orientation, source of income, or other characteristics protected by law.
