Gaxiola Family Breaks Ground on Future Thanks to Thrivent Builds Program & Habitat for Humanity

Los Angeles, CA – April 20, 2008: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (www.habitatla.org) and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will break ground on a new home in the City of Los Angeles with future homeowners, The Gaxiola Family. The Gaxiola’s currently live in substandard conditions in a high crime area in Compton. The family of five will break ground on Saturday, May 3 and all able bodied members will help build the home a minimum of 500 hours as required for Habitat for Humanity homeownership. This is the third home in Los Angeles to be fully funded by the Thrivent Builds program.

WHEN: Saturday, May 3, 2008
10 am to 12 pm

WHERE: 11213 Grand Avenue (at 112th Street)
105 Freeway to Imperial Blvd. exit - Street parking available

WHY: Joe Gaxiola has long dreamed of providing a safe home for his family away from the crime and violence surrounding their Compton apartment. By partnering with Habitat for Humanity and with the support of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, that dream has become a reality. This Saturday the Gaxiola family will break ground on their new home in the City of Los Angeles. Habitat partner families must be able to build a minimum of 500 hours as “sweat equity” and pay back a zero-interest loan to qualify for homeownership. and The Thrivent Builds program partners with Habitat for Humanity to build safe, affordable housing nationwide. The Gaxiola home is the third to be fully-funded by the organization in Los Angeles in three years.
