Giveback Homes & Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles Celebrate Partnership with 20th Volunteer Build Day

More than 25 Real Estate Professionals Help Build a Habitat Home in Watts

Los Angeles, CA – January 9, 2019: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) and Giveback Homes recently partnered for a build day in Watts. On Friday, November 30th, more than 25 real estate professionals from Giveback Homes volunteered to help build the home of future Habitat homeowner and single mother, Mayra Martinez Gil. This day of giving marked the 20th build day for Giveback Homes since partnering with Habitat LA. Mayra was also in attendance, building alongside the volunteers as part of her required 500 hours of sweat equity. During a lunch presentation, Mayra shared her journey to homeownership, and Habitat representatives shared information about the organization’s many affordable housing initiatives, including Habitat for Heroes, Neighborhood Stabilization, Home Repairs and Fire Relief.

“Giveback Homes is a wonderful example of how people from all areas of life can come together for a common goal and we value their ongoing support of our mission,” said Erin Rank, President and CEO of Habitat LA. “These volunteers share our commitment to building stability through homeownership and their partnership has had a significant impact in our community, as well as around the world.”

Giveback Homes has partnered with Habitat LA since 2013, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding and engaging thousands of Real Estate professionals to volunteer building Habitat homes. To date, Giveback Homes has raised over $100,000 for Habitat LA and nearly $200,000 for sister Habitat affiliates in Nicaragua, Nepal, and San Francisco. This build day in Watts brings their total volunteer hours to nearly 70,000!

“Habitat for Humanity is a fantastic partner for Giveback Homes and our giving network,” added Cori Bracey, Marketing Manager of Giveback Homes. “We always enjoy bringing real estate professionals to Habitat LA projects to volunteer their time and connect directly with the individuals they are impacting.”

Mayra and her two children have lived in challenging conditions over the years, and look forward to moving into their new Habitat home early 2019.
